Ashley’s Story
Quote from an email sent by Ashley:
“As you promised, the welding mask arrived today, and it’s brilliant. By having this, you have opened the door for more opportunities and allowed me to hone my skills. Additionally, you’ve given me access to further my development.
Thank you for your assistance and all involved parties.”
Journey to stability…..
Ashley’s journey to stability began after he experienced street homelessness, following an unexpected eviction from a property that his landlord had been illegally subletting. He has since found a new start at Riverside homelessness accommodation.
Starting from scratch…..
Ashley wanted to enrol at the local college and start a welding course, as he was starting from scratch. He was required to complete levels 1 and 2. Ashley has since passed those levels and has now enrolled on the level 3 course.
A CHC grant….
However, a challenge stood in his way: the advanced course required professional-grade equipment that was out of reach. That’s where Church Homeless Charity stepped in. Through a CHC grant, we were able to provide Ashley with his own welding mask.
Quote from Ashley’s support worker:
“This is a great leap for Ashley, as stated earlier. Ashley suffers from ADHD, and for him to be able to concentrate on a subject as complex as welding, I consider this a breakthrough for Ashley. He has recently set out his goals; despite them being a little unreasonable, he has shown such enthusiasm for welding. It’s really great to see. This one little item has raised his hopes for further learning.”
Looking ahead….
His support worker has said that he has never seen Ashley so excited; the course has given him such great reasons and purpose. Ashley is continuing to make great progress and is working hard on his welding course.
