We’re always impressed by the dedication and generosity churches show us, especially when it comes to getting creative with their fundraising events.
Most recently the Stodden church group, of Dean, Melchbourne, Pertenhall, Shelton, Swineshead, and Yelden in the Diocese of St Albans, held a sleep-out in order to raise funds and awareness for homeless people.
Five volunteers gave up their beds on a chill February night to camp out on the porch of St Mary’s in Yelden.
Thanks to generous sponsors in the surrounding villages, the sleep-out raised a grand total of £2,210: proof that even a small community can provide enough to make a big difference.
A Stodden churches sleep-out was first organised by churchwarden Peter Morgan roughly 15 years ago, and raised almost £2,000 for Church Housing Trust.
Three more have been held since then and this year, in his memory, the PCC once again decided to donate the funds raised to Church Housing Trust.
There are any number of engaging activities you can hold to raise funds and awareness. We can also provide posters, leaflets and Gift Aid envelopes, as well as a DVD, collection boxes and recycling envelopes, free of charge.
