Churches have always played a crucial role in supporting charitable causes, and their congregations are often generous and willing to help those in need. As a charity rooted in Christian values, we deeply appreciate the support of churches across the country. Here are some creative and impactful ways that churches can help us raise funds to support people experiencing homelessness.
Hold a special collection
Many churches regularly take up collections for charitable causes. Dedicating a Sunday service to a special collection for our charity can make a huge difference. Encouraging congregants to give a little extra, even just the price of a coffee, can quickly add up to a significant amount.
Organise a sponsored sleep-out
A sleep-out event is a powerful way for congregants to experience a small part of what rough sleeping is like while raising funds. Participants seek sponsorship from friends and family to spend a night outdoors in a safe, organised environment, such as the church grounds or hall.
Host a community meal or afternoon tea
A fundraising meal or afternoon tea can bring people together while raising money for our cause. Whether it’s a simple soup lunch, a traditional Sunday roast, or a festive Christmas dinner, attendees can donate the cost of their meal to the charity.

Encourage regular giving
Encouraging church members to set up a small monthly direct debit to support our charity can have a long-term impact. Even a modest donation of £5 or £10 a month can provide vital support to those in need.
Sell cakes, books, or crafts
A church-run fundraising stall after services or at local events can generate valuable funds. Cakes, second-hand books, homemade crafts, or even homegrown produce could be sold, with proceeds donated to our work.

Run a ‘reverse advent calendar’ appeal
During Advent, rather than receiving a treat each day, congregation members can be encouraged to set aside a small donation or essential item (such as toiletries or socks) daily. These can then be pooled together and donated to help people who are struggling.
Set up a £1 challenge
Encourage each congregation member to donate just £1 – and then challenge them to get 10 friends or family members to do the same. The ripple effect can lead to a significant amount being raised in a short time.

Use Gift Aid to boost donations
Churches can remind congregants to sign up for Gift Aid. Which allows us to claim an extra 25% on donations from UK taxpayers. This simple step maximises the impact of every donation without costing donors extra.
Host a themed fundraising event
Try a quiz night, talent show, hymnathon, or even a fancy-dress service. It could be a fun way to bring the community together while raising money for a good cause.

Encourage legacy giving
Churches can also help by raising awareness of legacy giving . That is encouraging members to consider leaving a gift in their will to help support our work for years to come.
Working together to make a difference
Churches have a unique opportunity to mobilise their communities for good. And their support can make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing homelessness. If your church would like to get involved in fundraising for our charity, we’d love to hear from you!
Together, through faith in action, we can provide essential support to those in need.
