At Church Homeless Charity, we understand the difficulties and challenges many people face in today’s world, wrestling with the pressures of poverty, debt, and insecurity. We’ve seen how quickly rising prices, economic instability, and worries about the future have touched so many lives. Those teetering on the brink of poverty have suffered disproportionately, with job losses and evictions becoming all too common.
World Homeless Week is held in October each year to bring awareness to homelessness in England, and to raise the necessary funds to provide those individuals with life-changing grants. This year, World Homeless Week will be running from 8-15th October, encapsulating World Homeless Day on the 10th.
As a Christian charity that has been supporting homeless individuals for nearly 40 years, World Homeless Week has raised thousands of pounds in donations from churches up and down the country. These donations have translated into more than 3,000 people receiving tailored grants each year, and many more through events and group activities. Being a small charity enables us to personally know the names and circumstances of every person that benefits from our grants, and to address their most critical needs. Whether it’s funding a new ID to access services, providing new clothes after years of homelessness, or even furnishing a home when they move into one, we ensure our grants are as unique as the individuals we serve.
Over the past three years, we’ve called on churches to mark World Homeless Week by showcasing relevant posters and materials, initiating discussions on homelessness and poverty, advocating charitable giving, and of course, conducting a special World Homeless Week service on one of the two Sundays within the week.
In aid of this, Church Homeless Charity produces a free World Homeless Week pack that contains posters, leaflets, donation forms, activities and a customisable Order of Service kindly prepared this year by Ven Simon Baker. We would strongly encourage churches to take part in the week and join us in helping unhoused people to rebuild their lives.
