This is the sixth of our series of short messages on each of the Great Advent Antiphons, used on the last seven days of advent.
O King of the nations, and their desire,
the cornerstone making both one:
Come and save the human race,
which you fashioned from clay.
A cornerstone is the basic or foundational part of something on which its existence, success, or truth depends.
The King we await rules over the entire human race, not one nation or tribe. He is the one who created all of us from the earth, as one family. He is able to bring us together.
“He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4
